How solar return on investment actually works

Property value growth from a solar power investment

A solar power system is, in many ways, a financial product. Treated that way, it is capable of generating annual returns that sit somewhere in the range of ten percent to more than fifty percent, depending on the site and the tariff it is displacing.

Payback and the long tail

Typical payback lands within three to four years. After that the owner is receiving electricity at effectively no fuel cost for the remainder of a panel life measured in decades rather than years.

That long tail is where most of the return sits, which is why the quality of the equipment matters far more than the headline price. A system that is cheap to install and expensive to keep running is not a saving.

What this means in practice

Before quoting, we look at your existing electricity bills and the space available. A system sized to your actual load will always out-earn one sized to a sales target.
